Item of Interest:
The lecture on relevance was the most interesting thing for me this week. I especially liked the note to focus on fulfillment of future goals. I know that I have definitely been guilty of retaining information only long enough for a test (current benefit) and I know that connecting something to future goals gives me more connection and reason to learn and retain information. I think this can especially be helpful when students are required to take courses that they may not actually be interested in.
Areas of Help or Clarification:
I do not have areas of clarification this week.
Hey Amber!
ReplyDeleteIt seems none of us need clarification this week. It was a very interesting lesson. I also enjoyed the video and information about relevance. We know all too well about having to take certain classes knowing there's no relevance for us. If you read my post, I talk about that math class I had to take, which was the death of me. I still say if I can make it through that then I can make it through anything. It was so time consuming and frustrating to have to take it since I know I will never use or need it at my age and for my profession. I felt it was a waste of my time and money... and sanity. As of now, I could not tell you one thing I retained from that class. All of that to say, Dr. Gale's Module 5 video was spot on when he mentioned towards the end about not being able to reach the learner no matter what if they don't see the relevance the instructor is trying to get across to them.
Take care and I hope you are having a great term so far.
