Topics Covered: This module was all about building our lesson into the Blackboard LMS. Overview / Summary of Topics: Building lesson folder Including lesson introduction and objectives Creating sections for lesson chunks Building tests Setting up a discussion board Building Rubrics Creating course links Item of Interest: I think I found most interest in making sure that everything worked properly. No broken links, internal links went to the correct page, etc. I am a little bit of a perfectionist, so I probably went through my final course about ten times and made adjustments each time. Hoping I got it right! Areas of Help or Clarification: The act of building the tests was a little tricky and it is definitely not something I could have figured out without the how-to video, so I am thankful for that. I think I figured it out though.

I especially liked the note to focus on fulfillment of future goals. I know that I have definitely been guilty of retaining information only long enough for a test (current benefit) and I know that connecting something to future goals gives me more connection and reason to learn and retain information. I think this can especially be helpful when students are required to take courses that they may not actually be interested in.  Areas of Help or Clarification: I do not have areas of clarification this week.

Topics Covered: Assessment alignment Effective measurement Implementing assessments Overview / Summary of Topics: The module three lecture was really helpful for phase two of the design document. Alignment of assessments to objectives is a must. The verb of the objective should be the driver of the assessment and kind of tell you what your assessment will be. If your verb is compose, a paper would be appropriate and a verb of match will be best with something like a quiz.  Effective measurement is when the assessments measure the objectives you set out. It is best to let the learners know exactly what you're looking for from them. It is really frustrating for a learner to have to guess what is needed. Using a rubric and allowing the learner to view it is a great way to let them know exactly what you're looking for from them. Topics Covered: Needs analysis and personalized learning Objective types and Bloom's Taxonomy How to write strong objectives Overview / Summary of Topics: Personalized learning discussed the why and how and positive and negatives that come with creating personalized learning experiences. The goal of personalized learning is to have course materials that fit the needs of individual learners. With personalized learning, information is efficiently transmitted and data collected creates a clearer picture of the individual learner's needs. While personalized learning would create an ideal learning experience for individuals, it can be incredibly time-consuming to create and implement.
